The Child

This is the room, and these are the toys,
And this is the bed I lay in, when I was a child.
Those are the grounds, far as the eye can see,
Where I used to hide, when I was a child.
But I don't remember you,
No I don't remember you.

That was the door into the darkened space,
Where I would be kept, when I was a child.
And these are the walls that I used to beat upon,
They silenced my screams when I was a child.
But I don't remember you,
No I don't remember you.

That was the place they found her, mother of mine, lifeless and cold.
That was the place they found him, father of mine, both of them gone.
They looked at me, who else could it be,
No sign of a struggle, the boy must be trouble
I told them the truth, they said they had the proof,
The blood upon my hands, I was already damned.
But I don't remember you,
No I don't remember you.

Now that I'm cured, and free to live alone,
No threat, and not a danger, I'll soon be going home.
The house remains the same, I will return again,
The child is now a man, the boy was not insane.
No I don't remember you,
Still I can't remember you,
And I never did thank you.
